Wishing a big congratulations to our Miami Managing Director, Andrew Cohan, on his retirement from Majestic Hospitality. Andrew’s career is a testament to his lifelong commitment to learning and the qualities that have shaped his decades-long journey across industries, continents, and disciplines.
Andrew began his professional career after earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Tulane University, laying a strong foundation in business and analytical thinking. He went on to spend 23 years at Mountain Bell (AT&T), where he worked in marketing and sales and gained deep experience in client relationships, strategy, and large-scale organizations. Even early on, Andrew demonstrated a keen interest in understanding how businesses operate at both the strategic and human level.
Driven by a desire to continue expanding his knowledge, Andrew pursued graduate studies in business, beginning his master’s program at the University of Colorado Denver before ultimately completing his studies at the University of Pittsburgh. This dedication to education would become a defining theme throughout his career.
In the early 2000s, Andrew made a bold and transformative career shift, returning to school once again to study hospitality at Florida International University (FIU). There, he immersed himself in culinary studies, hotel management, and hotel real estate, combining his business acumen with a hands-on understanding of hospitality operations. This pivot marked the beginning of Andrew’s impactful career in the hospitality consulting and real estate advisory space.
Following his studies at FIU, Andrew entered the industry as a hotel appraiser at HVS, where he gained invaluable exposure to hotel valuation, feasibility analysis, and the financial mechanics behind hospitality assets. He later joined Horwath HTL, where he helped build and grow the firm’s Miami office, working on appraisals and advisory assignments for multi-million- and billion-dollar hotels across the Caribbean, Mexico, and South America. One standout milestone was completing his first billion-dollar hotel appraisal, an experience that deepened his understanding of large-scale hotel operations and ownership structures.
While Andrew thrived in high-profile, large-scale projects, he came to realize that his true passion lay in working closely with family offices and independent owners—clients who valued thoughtful guidance, long-term vision, and trusted relationships. This realization would play a key role in the next chapter of his career.
Andrew’s path crossed with Chris Henry, Founder and CEO of Majestic Hospitality, at an ISHC conference in Bangkok. The two connected immediately, bonding over their shared enthusiasm for the hospitality industry and a mutual appreciation for its energy, creativity, and complexity. Andrew admired Chris’s passion and vision, and the relationship initially led to Andrew referring his clients to Majestic for support with design, operations, and other advisory services. That collaboration soon evolved into something more.
Ultimately, Andrew joined Majestic Hospitality, becoming a key leader in establishing and leading the firm’s Miami division. Over the past three years, he played an instrumental role in expanding Majestic’s presence in the region, guiding clients through pre-development market studies and feasibility work, and bringing a global, experience-driven perspective to every engagement.
Throughout his career, Andrew has been known not only for his technical expertise but also for his commitment to lifelong learning. His academic journey includes education at Tulane University, the University of Colorado, the University of Pittsburgh, Florida International University, and Cornell University, reflecting his belief that curiosity and education should never stop, no matter where you are in your career. Highlights such as delivering professional presentations entirely in Spanish further underscore his dedication to cultural fluency and working effectively in international markets.
As Andrew steps into retirement, his curiosity and love for travel remain as strong as ever. He looks forward to spending time traveling the world, with plans to visit Spain to continue practicing his Spanish, along with exploring new destinations and cultures around the globe.
We are deeply grateful for Andrew’s leadership, insight, mentorship, and global perspective. His impact on Majestic Hospitality and on the many colleagues and clients he has worked with will be felt for years to come. We wish Andrew a joyful, adventurous, and fulfilling retirement as he begins this next chapter.
